Debb's Blog Should Be Purple

Debb is an expressive, offbeat blogger who tends to write about anything and everything.
Debb tends to set blogging trends, and she's the most likely to write her own meme or survey.

fur kids

my eldest furkid cat went missing tonight
&
as anyone who has cats know ... they can find places to hide that won't ever be discovered until they are darn good & ready to be found ...

so here we are, middle of the night, calling for the cat, freaked out because if for any odd cat reason she decided after 14+ years to actually go outside at night, she'd be owl or coyote food...
.
a total houe cat & fully domesticated
(she looks at mice & shows us, her people, where they are hiding to evacuate them, not kill mind you but simply remove & relocate)

.
so we are near frantic, and she is sleeping in the closet
.
we both cryed when we found her
.
she has been with us since before her eyes were opened
(dropped off & left as a tiny baby stray kitty by someone who felt that their cat needed to experience 'motherhood' with none of the commitment or responibility as parents either furred or other wise, like a lot of folks these days is seems (& not just for furkids)

.
so we adopted her while she was still wanting to be nursing & still had her little green eyes closed...
.
not really a cat, a fur kid
our furkid
and we'll have to find a way to not spazz when she has decided that she wants to sleep in the closet instead of the bedroom with the rest of us.
.
altho that likely won't happen
it is good to have all the furkids in the same room at night.
.
if the very worst happens, we can scoop & contain them all & be out of the house fairly quickly ...
and they have to sleep with us, their non-furred parents,
every night because that's just the way we do things in this house

a letter from my dad

I just had to share this letter from my Dad...

Dear Deborah,

I heard a song today: "Try to Remember" by Ed Ames. It reminded me of the photostory I made for Dad just before he died, so I watched it once more. Then I watched the one I made of Mom and her life. Her earlier photos and memories of her personality reminded me so much of you. She was a beautiful and vibrant woman. She was so very intelligent and quick and her life held much promise. She devoted her life to her family - a choice she made and stuck to.

You have her beauty and her vibrancy and her intelligence and her ability to see through to the solution without becoming mired in the questions. Unfortunately, you seem to have her propensity toward disease also. After watching her story and thinking about her, I wanted to remind you that YOU are not your job. YOU are the kittens and the dogs and Gene and your house and your love of nature and your love of art and music. YOU are me and Janice and Carole and your mother and Beth and all your friends who have become drawn to you over the years. YOU are such a special and unique person with talents and abilities and understanding. There is no one else on earth like YOU.

Your job is just that - a job, a means to an end. Jobs will come and go and your being there will pass into forgotten memory after you leave it. YOU will remain here on this earth in our lives, in your life and the job and the memory of the job will gradually dilute and disappear. So, don't let the job affect YOU and the important parts of your life. Don't let it affect your physical or mental health. Don't let it affect your relationships with those who are important to you. Look out for yourself first and foremost.

You know, I worked at a company for the better part of 40 years and since I left I haven't felt the need to revisit, nor has anyone there visited me. Soon, those of my generation will be forgotten and my being there won't have made any lasting impressions. It was a job, it was a way to earn money so that I would have the opportunity to provide for my family. It was a way to help pay for a home and the care of those who were important to me. It was a way for me to save for retirement. YOU and the rest of my family and friends are what's important to me. YOU are a huge part of my life - always have been, always will be. I want YOU to take care of YOU for me. WE don't need a job that tears YOU down and leaves US the dregs. There is no question of what is most important when it comes to duties - YOU are! The job is not! It is just a tool for you.

YOU are loved,
Dad

It's a truth that we are hardest on ourselves often for the things that, in the end, mean the least.

passings

it's been a long tired month, this May

I started a new medication (makes me very tired -- exhausted really -- even doing little everyday kinds of things) and according to my hubby, I've lost my sense of humor (if found please be gentle with it & send it back)

we lost our dear bengal cat, Sir Timms, after a long illness (probably a cancer) his housemate, our maine coon cat Mz. Thursday, has been missing him terribly... as do the dogs... they all look for Timms at different times of the day (he had a pretty set schedule for wandering around the house)

my sister was hospitalized and got a transfusion (it was medication related and the doctor has adjusted her dosages)

on the up-side June looks to be busy & fully filled with lots of work happening all at once for me & family coming to visit & the sun being up for so very long as summer progresses

maybe the extra sunshine is what I need

what we all need

mother's day

Here is my wish for mothers on this day:

That mothers of all sorts find joy in the day:

mothers of sons & daughters
mothers of furkids
mothers of feathered kids
mothers of neighborhood kids
mothers adopted by others in need

been a while

I know it's been a while since I posted last...

the time has been full

work - always an possible life absorbing/wasting issue
health - must be consistantly good to get anything done
kids (be they furred or human) - they require extra care sometimes
yard & house - always there to keep-up

so that's been my spring
(long story short)

life in the way of life

work gets in the way of life

life gets in the way of life

we get in the way of life

so...

get out of the way

put work in it's place

and ...
enjoy yourself

life in the way of life

work gets in the way of life

life gets in the way of life

we get in the way of life

so...

get out of the way

put work in it's place

and ...

some days all you can do is pause
take a break
a nap
time for ourselves is the best gift we can give
to recharge
to restart
to rejoice
take a pause in your day
just a few minutes will do
and see how bright the rest of the day becomes

work, a daily grind

Never work just for money or for power.
They won't save your soul or help you sleep at night.
~~~ Marian Wright Edelman ~~~
it's most of our life, this thing "WORK"
we will (in degrees) dread, enjoy, relish and regret it.
it will exhaust us, renew us, challenge us & bore us to tears.
it can be gloomy, garish, gross, grimy, gritty, gripping, gracious or glamorous
or at times all of the above
we work at the jobs we have for a multitude of reasons
many of which make no sense to those who love us & watch us off each day to the trenches
sometimes we don't know why ourselves, which is sad
we should, at the very least, know why and for what we are working so hard for.
like she said:
Never work just for money or for power. They won't save your soul or help you sleep at night.
