don't be too hard

this tarot card came up for me today...
it is a good reminder to not be too hard
on others, on ourself, on it all...
this if especially important to keep in mind as we move thru this time of the new year when we all make goals and resolutions...

Justice

This card reminds us that true justice is an act of mercy not cruelty.
Often we look at justice as "an eye for an eye" and not as an act of
discipline.
Discipline is not the same as punishment.
We must learn
to become self-disciplined without punishing or berating ourselves.
Often we try to live up to concepts or ideals that are impossible to
attain,
setting ourselves up for certain failure.

When this card
comes up we are told to reflect on ways that we are unjust to ourselves.
Time to stop exacting punishment and develop acceptance
and compassion.
Negativity is a repeating cycle that had to be
recognized, understood, and then broken.

Today be mindful of the demands you place on yourself,
or
if you
haven't been disciplined enough lately, tighten the reigns a bit.
Now
is a good time for clear, decisive intentions and action.
Direct your
thoughts and deeds towards healthier areas.

goals and serendipity

I got an email newsletter with a very short concise commentary on goals which was serendipitous in content to several conversations that I've had with friends lately...

here's that it says:

Goals

"It is not enough to take steps which may some day lead to a goal; each step must be itself a goal and a step likewise."
-Goethe (1749-1832)

This week our topic is goals. We learn about the importance of setting goals, and we know how good it feels when we reach those goals. But at the same time, we need to remember that each step is an important part of our progress. We need to recognize this, and celebrate that we are moving forward. We are learning and growing every day.
-Lissa Coffey

perhaps it's the current year winding down & new year coming on,
perhaps it's the gradual lengthening of the days,
perhaps it's holiday stress release

whatever the reason
each step is a step, whether forward or back.

interesting bit....

that explains quite a lot ...

well, at the very least it helps add a bit of clarity to my current (and on-going) situation

every little bit of additional information can aid one in making sense of the misadventures that occur in our lives and, more importantly, how to over come and continue as a more whole individual...

A lot of soul-searching, questions and doubts about your values, commitments and the overall direction of your life mark this time period as a critical and difficult one.
ot of soul-searching, questions and doubts about your values, commitments and the overall direction of your life mark this time period as a critical and difficult one. You may feel less enthusiastic or motivated than usual but aren't sure why. If you are predisposed to depression or confusion, those feelings could set in now; you may lose faith in yourself and your abilities or feel inadequate and lacking in direction. You may find it difficult to approach your daily tasks with your usual level of enthusiasm. Subconscious doubts about the ultimate value of your endeavors are undermining your sense of purpose. Find some solitude and gain some distance from your daily life at this time, but don't completely retreat from life and resign from your daily affairs, which you may be tempted to do. Evaluate your situation in life, your commitments, decisions and values, but try to wait on making any major, life-altering decisions. Any old habits that inhibit the attainment of your ideals must be dropped; be careful, however, not to give up on long-term efforts and commitments just because you are running into difficulties.

Lah lah laa la lah...

There is something wonderful about being able to add music to your world and the link between body, mind voice & health is still being explored.

The more music we add & the more we have the better off we are.
So sing out loud...

oh come on - you all know the words to this song

been a while....

quite a long while actually
sorry 'bout that...

I changed some things in my life in the past year....
& while major life altering transitions are not always what one expects, things do get better when a required change is made.

As personal life perspective shifted, the professional life did as well & this is a good thing

there has been a re-connection with what really matters and this continues to be life altering

I've found that
with the new perspective, those things that were once so very life consuming, to the end of self & relationships, are NOT the items of true importance...

health, spirit, family & home these matter and should never be usurped be replaced by the mundane.

may the end of this year provide blessings & abundance for all

do you resolve?

I've found that resolutions tend to be left behind quite quickly...
and that is why,
this year,
I joined the creative space...
...
...
a supportive & creative group of folks who encourage each other to stretch out and make th art that is in each of us.
my hope
(& mind you this is NOT a resolution!)
is that I will be able to maintain a creative space in every day this year.
and that by doing that
to grow as a person
to grow beyond my job
to expand beyond the confines of the work-a-day world
and to not be limited by the worries that come with both of those.
I'm hoping to be a more balanced human
a more peaceful soul
and a better person.

fur kids

my eldest furkid cat went missing tonight
&
as anyone who has cats know ... they can find places to hide that won't ever be discovered until they are darn good & ready to be found ...

so here we are, middle of the night, calling for the cat, freaked out because if for any odd cat reason she decided after 14+ years to actually go outside at night, she'd be owl or coyote food...
.
a total houe cat & fully domesticated
(she looks at mice & shows us, her people, where they are hiding to evacuate them, not kill mind you but simply remove & relocate)

.
so we are near frantic, and she is sleeping in the closet
.
we both cryed when we found her
.
she has been with us since before her eyes were opened
(dropped off & left as a tiny baby stray kitty by someone who felt that their cat needed to experience 'motherhood' with none of the commitment or responibility as parents either furred or other wise, like a lot of folks these days is seems (& not just for furkids)

.
so we adopted her while she was still wanting to be nursing & still had her little green eyes closed...
.
not really a cat, a fur kid
our furkid
and we'll have to find a way to not spazz when she has decided that she wants to sleep in the closet instead of the bedroom with the rest of us.
.
altho that likely won't happen
it is good to have all the furkids in the same room at night.
.
if the very worst happens, we can scoop & contain them all & be out of the house fairly quickly ...
and they have to sleep with us, their non-furred parents,
every night because that's just the way we do things in this house
.

a letter from my dad

I just had to share this letter from my Dad...

~~~~~~~~!~~~~~~~~~~~~!~~~~~~~~~~~!~~~~~~~~~~~~!~~~
Dear Deborah,
I heard a song today: "Try to Remember" by Ed Ames. It reminded me of the photostory I made for Dad just before he died, so I watched it once more. Then I watched the one I made of Mom and her life. Her earlier photos and memories of her personality reminded me so much of you. She was a beautiful and vibrant woman. She was so very intelligent and quick and her life held much promise. She devoted her life to her family - a choice she made and stuck to.
You have her beauty and her vibrancy and her intelligence and her ability to see through to the solution without becoming mired in the questions. Unfortunately, you seem to have her propensity toward disease also. After watching her story and thinking about her, I wanted to remind you that YOU are not your job. YOU are the kittens and the dogs and Gene and your house and your love of nature and your love of art and music. YOU are me and Janice and Carole and your mother and Beth and all your friends who have become drawn to you over the years. YOU are such a special and unique person with talents and abilities and understanding. There is no one else on earth like YOU.
Your job is just that - a job, a means to an end. Jobs will come and go and your being there will pass into forgotten memory after you leave it. YOU will remain here on this earth in our lives, in your life and the job and the memory of the job will gradually dilute and disappear. So, don't let the job affect YOU and the important parts of your life. Don't let it affect your physical or mental health. Don't let it affect your relationships with those who are important to you. Look out for yourself first and foremost.
You know, I worked at a company for the better part of 40 years and since I left I haven't felt the need to revisit, nor has anyone there visited me. Soon, those of my generation will be forgotten and my being there won't have made any lasting impressions. It was a job, it was a way to earn money so that I would have the opportunity to provide for my family. It was a way to help pay for a home and the care of those who were important to me. It was a way for me to save for retirement. YOU and the rest of my family and friends are what's important to me. YOU are a huge part of my life - always have been, always will be. I want YOU to take care of YOU for me. WE don't need a job that tears YOU down and leaves US the dregs. There is no question of what is most important when it comes to duties - YOU are! The job is not! It is just a tool for you.
YOU are loved,
Dad
It's a truth that we are hardest on ourselves often for the things that, in the end, mean the least.
passings
it's been a long tired month, this May
I started a new medication (makes me very tired -- exhausted really -- even doing little everyday kinds of things) and according to my hubby, I've lost my sense of humor (if found please be gentle with it & send it back)
we lost our dear bengal cat, Sir Timms, after a long illness (probably a cancer) his housemate, our maine coon cat Mz. Thursday, has been missing him terribly... as do the dogs... they all look for Timms at different times of the day (he had a pretty set schedule for wandering around the house)
my sister was hospitalized and got a transfusion (it was medication related and the doctor has adjusted her dosages)
on the up-side June looks to be busy & fully filled with lots of work happening all at once for me & family coming to visit & the sun being up for so very long as summer progresses
maybe the extra sunshine is what I need
what we all need
